Things to do with this blog

Besides my normal rants or favorites or whatever on music, I would like to throw in my five (or ten or whatever) favorite songs I have heard during that day or the day before or something. I have this big project that I'm doing in another blog, so I'm already listening to a lot of music, but believe me I'm trying to listen to other stuff, too. So hopefully (motivation assuming) I'll start posting some tracks everyday of whatever I have heard that day that moved me.

So one thing that I don't know fully how to take is the proliferation of Black Keys' music on the airwaves. "Girl Is on My Mind" is being played on a Zales or some jeweler's commercial. "Just Got to Be" is on a cell phone provider's commercial. I've heard "Next Girl" and "Ten Cent Pistol" at other times. Is it a good thing or bad thing that they have "gone commercial" essentially? Yes, they have been around a while, touring frequently, writing a lot, so maybe greater acclaim was just a natural progression. But they have gone the route of bands like Phoenix and the Big Pink in releasing their songs for use on commercials. Is this a bad thing? A little part of me feels like they're selling part of their souls to greater earnings, but the way the listening public has been lately, maybe this is the only way to get the music out.
