Maybe I Was Wrong: Music in the UK Part 2

So, I had my problems with UK music radio during the day while I was visiting, primarily that the DJs only played pop music during the day. I very rarely heard any rock music. You have to understand how disappointed in some ways I was. The UK in general has produced some of the greatest rock music artists of any generation. I could rattle off a list, but most people would know them. I heard none of these artists while I was over there.

But I started thinking the other day that maybe it's not as terrible as I felt at the time. Like it or not, pop music will always be around--both the good and the bad. While I felt like I heard plenty of bad while there (and most of the bad stuff was from the U.S.), there were a few songs that really stuck to me. The biggest one was Cee-Lo's "Forget You" (not using the explicit title), which had not only the best music but was also lyrically very catchy. Even though Cee-Lo's from the U.S., it got me thinking that a few nuggets of pop gold do make it through all the Rihanna's and Take That's and other bands that I just don't get any value out of.

Pop music isn't the enemy here. Bad music is. I shouldn't be bitter that the BBC played pop music most of the day. I should be mad that we let bad pop music get played there.

  1. XFM is a good radio station, but it's only broadcast near to Manchester (and I think near to London), it plays more alternative and rock music....I was listening to Nirvana on the way to work this morning....

  2. I think we caught XFM a couple of times while we were over. Kerrang was cool, too. I just wish there had been more of that available elsewhere.
